An object was placed upright 25cm in front of a converging lens with a focal length of 20cm. A concave mirror with a focal length of 15cm was placed 120cm behind the lens. Which of these describes the final image?

A

real, enlarged

B

virtual, upright

C

virtual, inverted

D

inverted, diminished

The correct Answer is:
A

`I_(1)` is first image of lens and object for mirror & `I_(2)` is image of mirror and object for second refraction at lens. For refraction at lens
`1/V-1/((-25)) =1/20Rightarrow1/V -1/20-1/25=1/100`
`V=100`cm For mirror
`1/V+1/-20=(-1)/15`
`1/V=-1/60 Rightarrow V=-60cm`
For final refraction at lens (ray moving leftward)
`1/V+1/60=1/20`
`1/V=(3-1)/60`
`V=30`cm
Final magnification `=(-4)xx(-3)xx(-1//2)=-6`
Final image is real, inverted & enlarged.
