Two charges -q and +q are located at points (0,0,-a) and (0,0,a) respectively.
(a) What is the electrostatic potential at the points (0,0,z) and (x,y,0) ?

The point (0,0,z) lies on the axis of the dipole.
`:.` Potential on a point on the axis of the dipole,
`V = +- (1)/(4pi epsilon_(0)) cdot (p)/(x^(2)-a^(2))`
where p = dipole moment = `q cdot 2a`
and `x^(2) -a^(2) = z^(2) - a^(2)`
`:. V = +- 1/(4 pi epsilon_(0))cdot (2qa)/(z^(2)-a^(2))`
The point (x,y,0) being on the line perpendicular to the axis of the dipole, the potential at that point is zero.
