In order to run a 60V- 120W lamp in 220V dc line , a resistor of what minimum magnitude should be placed in series with it ?

When the lamp run safely in the given dc line , the maximum current is ,
`I=(120)/(60)=2A`
So , this 2 A current will also flow through the resistance placed in series .
Again , potential difference at the two ends of the resistance = 220 - 60 = 160 V.
`therefore` The minimum value of the resistance `=(160)/(2)=80Omega`
