Two wires of equal length are bent in the from of two loops. One of the loops is a square wheres the other loop is circular. These are suspended in a uniform magnetic field and the same current is passed through them. Which loop will experience greater torque ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Torque on a current carrying loop is given by,
`vec tau= IvecA xx vecB`
Where `vecA` is the area of the loop, `vecB` is the magnetic field and I is the current. According to the question. I and `vecB` are same for both the loops.
Now, for loops having same perimeter, circular loop has greater area than the square loop. So, that circular loop will experiences greater torque.

The magnets of two suspended coil galvanometers are of the same strength so that they produce identical magnetic fields in the region of the coils. The coil of the first one is in the shape of a square of side a and that of the second one is circular of radius a// sqrt(pi) . when the same current is passed through the coils, the ratio of the torque experinced by the first coil to the experinced by the second one is

The magnets of two suspended coil galvanometer are of the same strength so that they produce identical uniform magnetic fields in the region of the coils. The coil of the first one is in the shape of a square of side a and that of the second one is circular of radius (a)/(sqrtpi) . When the same current is passed throught the coils, the ratio of the torque experienced by the first coil to that rxperienced by the second one is
