What type of mirror is used as a rear-view mirror in motors cars and other vehicles and why ?

Convex mirror is used as a rear-view mirror in motors cars and other vehicles. In a convex mirror, always erect and diminished virtual image is formed and the convex side of the mirror faces the object. As a result, the field of view is large. So, the driver can see large number of vehicles approaching from behind.
