On the basis of the relation among u,v and f of a spherical mirror determine the nature, position and size of the image of an object formed by a plane mirror.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The radius of curvature of a plane mirror, `r = oo ,` so, its focal length, `f = ( r )/(2) = oo.`
From the relation of a spherical mirror,
`(1)/(v)+(1)/(u) = (1)/(f) =(1)/(oo)=0 or, (1)/(v) = -(1)/(u) or, v = -u`
The negative sign indicates that the image is formed behind the mirror as the object in front of the mirror and it is virtual in nature.
Again the values of u and v are equal, so, object distance from the mirror = image distance.
Magnification of the image , `m=(v)/(u) = 1, i.e.,` the size of the object and image are equal.

State the nature and size of the image formed by a concave mirror of an object at infinity.

An object of size 5cm is placed on the principal axis of a convex mirror at a distance of 10cm from it . The focal length of the convex mirror is 20cm. Determine the nature, position and size of the image formed.

An object is placed just at the middle point between concave mirror of radius of curvature 40 cm and a convex mirror of radius of curvature 30 cm facing each other. The mirrors are situated 50 cm apart from each other. The mirrors are situated 50 cm apart from each other. Considering the first reflection occurs in the concave mirror, determine the position and nature of the image formed by this mirror. Next find the position and nature of the image formed by the convex mirror considering the first image for concave mirror as its object.

Three times magnified image of an object is formed on a screen placed at a distance of 8 cm from the object with the help of the spherical mirror. Determine the nature of the mirror. Focal length and the distance the mirror from the object.

At what position should an object be placed in front of a spherical mirror such that the size of the image is equal to that of the object?

The reflecting surfaces of a concave mirror and a convex mirror are separated by a distance of 35 cm. The radius of curvature of the tow mirrors are 15 cm and 25 cm respectively. An object of height 3 cm is placed vertically on the principal axis 10 cm from the concave mirror. If the first reflection takes place in the concave mirror and then in the convex mirror, determine the position , nature and size of the final image formed.
