If an object of height l is placed perpendicularly on the principal axis of a spherical mirror at a distance u from it, prove that the height of its image, `l' = l((f)/(u-f))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know,
`(1)/(v)+(1)/(u)=(1)/(f) or, (1)/(v)=(1)/(f)-(1)/(u) = (u-f)/(fu) or, (v)/(u)=(f)/(u-f)`
`therefore "Linear magnification," " " m=(l')/(l)=(v)/(u)=(f)/(u-f)`
[considering mod value of m only]
`or, " " l' = l((f)/(u-f))`

An object of length 5cm is placed perpendicularly on the principal axis at a distance of 75cm from a conacave mirror. If the radius of curvature of the mirror is 60cm, calculate the image distance and its hieght.

The focal length of a concave mirror is 30 cm. An object is placed at a distance of 45 cm in front of the mirror. A plane mirror is placed perpendicularly on the principal axis of the concave mirror in such a way that the object is situated in between the two mirrors. Light rays from the object at first are reflection from the concave mirror and then from the plane mirror. As a result the final image coincides with the object. What is the distance between the two mirros?
