How will you identify experimentally whether a given beam of light is plane polarised or unpolarised?

A tourmaline crystal is placed in the path of the given beam of light and it is rotated. If the intensity of the transmitted. Light through the crystal remains unchanged. The beam is unpolarised. If intensity varies periodically and becomes zero twice in each rotation, then the beam is plane polarised.
