For a metal surface, ratio of the stopping potentials for two different frequencies of incident lights is `1 : 4`, what is the ratio of the maximum velocities in the two cases?

Text Solution

Stopping potential `prop` maximum kinetic energy. Again maximum kinetic energy `prop ("maximum velocity")^(2)`. If `v_(1) and v_(2)` are the maximum velocities in the two gives cases, respectively then,
`(1)/(4) = ((v_(1))/(v_(2)))^(2), " i.e., " v_(1) : v_(2) = 1 : 2`
