Threshold wavelength for photoelectric e...

Threshold wavelength for photoelectric emission from a metal surface is `3800Å`, Utraviolet light of wave-length `2600Å` is incident on the metal surface.
maximum kinetic energy of emitted photoelectron. `(h = 6.63 xx 10^(-27) " erg.s")`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As per Einstein's photoelectric equation, maximum kinetic energy of photoelectron, `E_("max") = hf - W_(0)`
hf= kinetic energy of incident photon
`= hf_(0) xx (f)/(f_(0)) = hf_(0) (c//lamda)/(c//lamda_(0)) = hf_(0) (lamda_(0))/(lamda)`
`= 3.27 xx (3800)/(2600) = 4.78 eV`
`:. E_("max") = 4.78 - 3.27 = 1.51 eV`
