A proton and an electron have same de Broglie wavelength. Which one has higher kinetic energy?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

de Broglie wavelength,
`lamda = (h)/(sqrt(2mK))` [K = kinetic energy]
or, `mK = (h^(2))/(2 lamda^(2))`
For same `lamda`, m K = constant
i.e., `K prop (1)/(m) or, (K_(e))/(K_(p)) = (m_(p))/(m_(e)) gt 1`
`:. K_(e) gt K_(p)`
`:.` Electron has higher kinetic energy
