Find the expression of de Broglie wavele...

Find the expression of de Broglie wavelength of a particle moving with velocity close to the velocity of light.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a particle moves with a velocity v close to the velocity of light c, then the effective mass of the particle,
`m = (m_(0))/(sqrt(1- (v^(2))/(c^(2))))`, where `m_(0)` = rest mass of teh particle
Hence, the de Broglie wavelength associated with the particle is
`lamda = (h)/(mv) = (hsqrt(1-(v^(2))/(c^(2))))/(m_(0)v) = (h)/(m_(0)v) sqrt(1 - (v^(2))/(c^(2)))`
