Obtain the first Bohr radius and the gr...

Obtain the first Bohr radius and the ground state energy of a muonic hydrogen atom (I.e ., an atom in which negatively charged muon (`mu^(-))` of mass about `207 m_e` orbits around a proton).

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

According to the question, mass of muon,
`m_m=207 m_e`
When all other quantities remain uncharged,
`r prop (n^2)/(m) and E prop (m)/(n^2)`
`therefore r_m =(r_em_e)/(m_m)=(0.53xx10^(3))/(207)=2.56 xx10^(-13)m`
and `E_m =(E_em_m)/(m_e) =-(13.6xx207)=-3.8keV`
