The ionic radii of `A^(+)andB^(-)` ions are `0.98xx10^(-10)m and 1.81xx10^(-10)m`. The coordination number of each ion in AB is-

A

2

B

6

C

4

D

8

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`(r_(A^(+)))/(r_(B^(-)))=(0.98xx10^(-10))/(1.81xx10^(-10))=0.54`
When the value of radius ratio lies in between 0.414 and 0.732, the coordination number of each ion will be 6.
Therefore, coordination number of each ion is 6 like NaCl structure.
