Analysis of 30g of a compound D was found to contain 10g off element A and 20g of element B. again analysis of 45g of another compound E was found to contain 15g of element B and 30g of element C. caculate the amounts of D and E formed if 15g of A, 60g of B and 15g of C are mixed together and allowed to react with each other. also calculate total mass of the mixture after completion of the reaction. assume that no other reaction is possible except the reaction of B with A and C separately. state which laws of the chemical combination can be utilised in the calculation.

In compound D, mass-ratio of A to B=10:20=1:2
In compound E, mass-ratio of B to C=15:30=1:2
Now applying the law of constant proportions we have,
15g of A combines with `2xx15=30g` of B to form (15+30)=45g of compound D.
similarly, 15g of C combines with `(1)/(2)xx15=7.5g` of B to form (15+7.5)=22.5g of compound E.
`therefore`Amount of B remaining unreacted in the mixture
=[60-(30+7.5)]=22.5g
Total mass of the mixture after completion of reaction=Mass of D+mass of E+mass of B remaining unreacted
=45+22.5+22.5=90g.
Concept of the law of mass action and the law of constant proportions are utilised in the calculations.
