Mass of 0.1 mol of `X_(2)Y=4.4g`
`therefore`Mass of 1 mol of `X_(2)Y=(4.4)/(0.1)=44g`.
similarly, mass of 1 mol of `XY_(2)=2.3//0.05=46g`
so, molecular mass of `X_(2)Y and XY_(2)` are 44 and 46 respectively. Let the atomic massses of X and Y be a and b respectively. so, the molecular mass of `X_(2)Y=(2a+b)` and the molecular mass of `XY_(2)=(a+2b)`.
According tot he question, `2a+b=44 and a+2b=46`.
By solving the equations, `a=14 and b=16`.
`therefore` The atomic masses of X and Y are 14 and 16 respectively.
