If the molecular masses of two gases be `M_(1) and M_(2)` then the vapour density of the first gas, relative to the second gas `[(D_(1))_(2)]=M_(1)//M_(2)`.
So, vapour density of sulphur vapour relative to nitrogen
gas=(`"Molecular mass of sulphur vapour")/("molecular mass of nitrogen gas")`
`therefore` Molecular mass of sulphur=`9.143xx28=256.004`
Now, the atomic mass of sulphur=32
`therefore`Atomicity of sulphur vapour `=(256.04)/(32)~~8`
Hence, molecular formula of sulphur=`S_(8)`.
