20g of a metal reacts with dilute H(2)SO...

20g of a metal reacts with dilute `H_(2)SO_(4)` to liberate 0.504g of `H_(2)` gas. Calculate the amount of metal oxide formed from 2.0g of the metal.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

0.504g of `H_(2)` is liberated by 20g of the metal.
`therefore` 1.008g `H_(2)` is liberated by `(20xx1.008)/(0.504)=40g` of the metal.
So equivalent mass of the metal=40
`therefore`40g of metal combines with 8 g of oxygen
So, 2.0 g of metal combines with `=(8xx2)/(40)g=0.4g` of oxygen
`therefore` Amount of metal oxide=mass of metal+mass of oxygen
=(2.0+0.4)=2.4g
