15g of an element (A) reacs completely with 30g of another element (B). Calculate the specific equivalent weight of A if that of B is 60.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know that two element A and B will react with each other in ratio of their equivalent weight `(E_(A) and E_(B))`.
So, in the reaction between A and B, `("amount of A")/("amount of B")=(E_(A))/(E_(B))`
or, `(15)/(30)=(E_(A))/(E_(B))" "therefore E_(A)=1/2xxE_(B)=1/2xx60=30`
So, equivalent weight of A=30.
