Calculate the amount of carbon dioxide t...

Calculate the amount of carbon dioxide that could be produced when (1) 1 mole of carbon is burnt in air.
(2) 1 mole of carbon is burnt in 16g of dioxygen.

(1) `underset("1 mol")(C(s))+underset("1 mol (32g)")(O_(2)(g)) to underset(" 1 mol (44g)")(CO_(2)(g))`
According to the equation [1], 44g of `CO_(2)` is produced on complete combustion of 1 mol of carbon in air.
(2) According to the equation [1], 32g of dioxygen is required for the combustion of 1 mol of carbon. however only 16g of dioxygen is present in the reaction mixture which reacts with 0.5 mol of carbon. therefore, dioxygen is the limiting reagent in this reaction. So, 22g of `CO_(2)` is produced in this reaction.
