Calculate the mass of sodium acetate (CH...

Calculate the mass of sodium acetate `(CH_(3)COONa)` required to make 500 mL of 0.375 molar solution Molar mass of sodium acetate is 82.0245`g*mol^(-1)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molarity`=("mass of the solute (in g)")/("g-molecular mass"xx"vol. of the solution (L)")`
As given in the question, 0.375`=("mass of the solute")/(82.0245xx500xx10^(-3))`
`[because 500mL=500xx10^(-3)L]`
or, Mass of the solute`=(0.375xx82.0245xx500)/(1000)~~15.38g`
Therefore, 15.38g of sodium acetate `(CH_(3)COONa)` is required to make 500 mL of 0.375 molar aqueous solution.
