In a reaction A+B(2) to AB(2). Identify ...

In a reaction `A+B_(2) to AB_(2)`. Identify the limiting reagent, if any, in the following reaction mixtures.
(1) 300 atoms of A+200 molecules of B
(2) 2 mol A +3 mol B

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(1) According to the given reaction, 1 atom of A reacts with 1 molecule of B. therefore, 200 atoms of A reacts with 200 molecules of B, and 100 no. of A atoms remain unused. In this case B is the limiting reagent. As A is present in excess.
(2) According to the reaction, 1mol of A reacts with 1 mol of B. thus, 2 mol of A reacts with 2 mol of B. thus, A is the limiting reagent and B will remain in excess.
