Calculate the volume of oxygen that will react with hydrogen produced by the decomposition of 50 `cm^(3)` of ammonia. Both the reactions occur at `18^(@)C & 76cm` of Hg.

Text Solution

Reaction `2NH_(3)(2vol.)toN_(2)(1vol.)+3H_(2)(3vol.)`
In `18^(@)C and 76cm` Hg pressure, volume of hydrogen produced by decomposition of `50cm^(3)` ammonia `=50xx(3//2)=75cm^(3)`
Reaction: `H_(2)(1vol.)+(1)/(2)O_(2)((1)/(2)vol.)toH_(2)O(1vol.)`
At `18^(@)C` and 75cm Hg pressure, the volume of oxygen that reacts with `75cm^(3)` of hydrogen
`=75//2=37.5cm^(3)`.
