The atomic mass of an element is 24. find the actual mass of one atom of that element. If the atomic number of the element is 11, then find out the number of neutrons present in 0.1 gram-atom.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`M_("atom")=("g-atomic mass")/(N_(A))=(24)/(6.022xx10^(23))=3.985xx10^(-23)`
Number of neutrons present in atom whose atomic mass is 24 and atomic number is 11=24-11=13
Number of atoms present in 1 gram-atom `=6.022xx10^(23)`
`therefore` Number of atoms present in 0.1 gram-atom
`=6.022xx10^(22)`
`therefore` Number of neutrons present in `6.022xx10^(22)` number of atoms or 0.1 gram-atom.
`=6.022xx10^(22)xx13=7.829xx10^(23)`
