Equivalent mass of a metal is 20. how much of the metal will react with chlorine to give 5.0g of metallic chloride.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Equivalent mass of the metal=20
`therefore`20g of metal reacts with 35.5g of chlorine.
If 20g of metal reacts with 35.5 of chlorine, then amount of metallic chloride`(35.5+20)g=55.5g`
`therefore`55.5g metallic chloride=20g metal
`therefore`5.0g metallic chloride`-=(20xx5)/(55.5)g` metal
`=1.8018g` metal
`therefore`1.8018g metal reacts iwth chlorine to give 5.0g metallic chloride.
