Why s-orbital does not possess directional properties?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The angular part of wave function of s-orbital does not depend on `theta and phi`. As a result, symmetrical distribution of electron density occurs with increasing distance from the nucleus. Thus, s-orbital is spherically symmetrical and does not possess directional properties.
