A photon of wavelength lamda collides wi...

A photon of wavelength `lamda` collides with an electron. After collision, the wavelength of the photon changes to `lamda'`. Calculate energy of the scattered electron.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Energy of the photon before collision`=hv=(hc)/(lamda)`
Energy of the photon after collision`=hv'=(hc)/(lamda')`
The difference in energy is imparted to the electron, which suffers collision. Hence energy of the scattered electron
`=(hc)/(lamda)-(hc)/(lamda')=hc((1)/(lamda)-(1)/(lamda'))`
