Both lithium and magnesium displace seve...

Both lithium and magnesium displace several similar propertiess due to the diagonal relationship, however, the one which is incorrect, is-

A

both form nitrides

B

nitrates of both Li and Mg yiled `NO_(2) and O_(2)` on heating

C

both form soluble carbonates

D

both form soluble bicarbonates

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Despite having diagonal relationship, Li and Mg differ in carbonate satls. Magnesium forms basic carbonate `[3MgCO_(3),Mg(OH)_(2),2H_(2)O]` but lithium like other alkli metals form normal carbonate `[Li_(2)CO_(3)]` salts. Hence, `O^(-2),F^() and Mg^(2+)` are isoelectronic species.
