When does the graph showing variation of the volume of a given mass of gas with pressure at a constant temperature become linear?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For a given mass of gas at a fixed temperature, `PV =K` (constant). That is, `P=(K)/(V)`. This relation expresses an equation of a straight line passing through the origin. Therefore, if P is plotted against `(1)/(V)` for a given mass of a gas at a fixed temperature, a straight line will be obtained.
