Arrange `O_(2),CO_(2),Ar and SO_(2)` gases present in a sample of air in order of their increasing partial pressure.

Text Solution

The sum of the partial pressure of the gases present in atmosphere is equal to the total atmospheric pressure (P), i.e., `P=P_(N_(2))+p_(O_(2))+p_(CO_(2))+`. . ., the constituent present in greater amount will contribute more to the atmospheric pressure, In air, the relative abundance (volume) of `O_(2),CO_(2),SO_(2) and NO_(2)` follows the order:
`SO_(2)(2xx10^(-5)%) lt CO_(2)(0.05%) lt Ar(0.93%) lt N_(2)(78.1%)`. therefore, the order of partial pressure will be: `SO_(2) lt CO_(2) lt Ar lt N_(2)`.
