At a site, low grade copper ores are available and zinc and iron scrape and also available. Which of the two scraps would be more suitable for reducing the leached copper ore and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Zn lies above Fe in the electrochemical series. Hence, if Zn-scrape are used, the reduction will be faster. But Zn is more expensive than Fe. Hence, it is advisable to use Fe-scraps instead of Zn- scraps for reducing the leached copper ore.
