What do you understand by the term glycosidic linkage?

In oligosaccharides and polysaccharides, any two adjacent monosaccharide units are joined together by an ether linkage or oxide linkage formed by the loss of a molecule of water. Such a linkage between two monosaccharide units through oxygen atom is called glycosidic linkage. For example, see structure of sucrose or matose in the text part.
