Sucrose (`C_(12)H_(22)O_(11)`, a disaccharide) undergoes hydrolysis to give a `1 : 1`molar mixture of `D-(+)` -glucose `(C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)) and D-(-)`- fructose `(C_(6)H_(12)O_(6))`. On the other hand, lactose (`C_(12)H_(22)O_(11)`, a disaccharide) undergoes hydrolysis to give a `1 :1` molar mixture of `D-(+)`-glucose and `D-(+)-`galactose
