Using the equation of state `pV=nRT`, show that at a given temperature density of a gas is proportional to gas pressure p.

Text Solution

Equation of state,
pV=nRT
P=pressure of gas
V=Volume of gas
n= number of moles of gas
R=gas constant
T= absolute temperature of gas
The number of moles n= `(weight)/(M.Wt)=W/M`
`thereforepV=W/MRT or p=W/VRT`
p=dRT `because W/V=d(density)`
Since R and T are constant, `p prop d`
