Is decrease in enthalpy a criterion for spontaneity? Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For the spontaneity of a reaction `DeltaG` mus be negative. Though the enthalpy increases if `TDeltaS` is more negative then `DeltaG` becomes negative in the equation
`DeltaG=DeltaH-TDeltaS`
So decrease in enthalpy of not a criterion for the spontaneity of the reaction.
