Write an activity which proves certab,l bases produce hydrogen .gas when they react with metals.

Explanation

Aim: To show the reaction of bases with metals.
Required materials:
1) Test tube
2) Delivery tube
3) Glass trough
4) Candle
5) Soap water
6) Sodium hydroxide (N/AOH) Solution
7) Zinc granules
Procedure:
1) Set the apparatus as shown in figure.
2) Take about 10ml of dilute sodium hydroxide (N/AOH) solution in a test tube.
3) Add a few granules of zinc metal to It.
4) We will observe formation ofgas bubbles on Uie surface of granules.
5) The gas will pass through delivery tube evolved:'from soap solution as bubbles.
6) Brtng burning candle near the gas filled bubble. ·
7). The gas in the bubble puts off the candle with pop sound. Result : The evolved gas is hydrogen
