Neutralization : The reaction ohm acid with a base to give a salt and water is known as a neutralization reaction.
Base+Acid`to`Salt+Water
Activity:
1) Take about 2 ml of dilute N/AOH solution in a test tube and add one drop of phenol-phthalein indicator. The solution turns to pink.
2) Add dilute HCl solution to the above solution drop by drop. The pink colour disappears.
3) Now add oqe or two drops of N/AOH to the above milxture.
4) Now the pink colour reappears.
5) In the above reaction first the pink colour disappears on adding HCl because N/AOH is completely reacted with HCl. Then number of OH- ions decreases. The effect of base is nullified by an acid.
6) Pink colour reappears on adding a drop of N/AOH because the number of `OH^-` ions increases. The reaction occurring between acid and base in this activity can be written as:
`N/AOH+HCltoN/ACl+H_2O`
This is neutralization reaction.
