What happens when a base is dissolved in water ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1) Take some bases like N/AOH. KOH, `Mg(OH)_2` in different test tubes and add water to them. The reactions are
`N/AOHoverset(H_2O)toN/A^(+)+OH^-`
`KOHoverset(H_2O)toK^(+)+OH^-`
`Mg(OH)_3overset(H_2O)toMg^(2+)+2OH^-`
2) On dissolving bases in water produces hydroxide `(OH^-)` ions.
