I Do not agree with Srinu .
1) Electronic configuration of chlorine (Cl) atom is `1s^(2) 2s ^(2) 2p ^(6) 3^(2) 3p ^(5) `.
2 ) Electronic configuration of chloride (`Cl ^(-))` ion `1s^(2) 2s^(2) 2p^(6) 3s^(6).`
3 ) Both chlorine and chlorine ion have 17 protons each but there are 17 electrons in chlorine atom .
4 ) Whereas 18 electrons in chorine ion
5 ) therefore the nuclear attraction is less in `Cl^(-) ` ion when compared with chlorine atom .
6 ) Therefore . the size the chlorine (Cl ) atom is less size than `Cl^(-) ` ion
7 ) In gereral negative ion ion ( anion ) of an element has bigger in size than its neutral atom .
8 ) size of Cl gt size of Cl But size of `Na^(+)` lt Size of Na .
