Potential energy : It is the energy possessed by a body by the virture of its position .
Ex Energy stored in water a over head tank , wound spring .

Equation for potential energy : Let a body of mass m is lifted through a height 'h' above the ground . where ground is taken as reference . In this process we are doing some work .
Work done against gravity W = m.g. h.
i.e ,Force `xx` diplacement along the direction of force applied . This work done is stored in the body in the form of potential energy . Because work and energy can be interchanged .
`therefore` Potential Energy P.E . = mgh.
