By mistake, a voltmeter is connected in series and an ammeter in parallel with a resistance in an electric circuit. What will happen to the measurements?

Let the original current in the circuit=Ifig.1.44(a) .

Now the resistance of the voltmeter V is very high . SO when it is connected to the circuit in series Fig.1.44(b) the current I falls to a much lower value.
Again, the substances of the ammeter.A is very low. When connected parallel to the resistance R, it acts as a shunt, so the major part of the main current passes through it. THis means that the current through R falls further. As a result, the potential difference across R also falls appreciably.
Now, a voltmeter and an ammeter should be connected to a circuit in such a way that they measure the potential difference and the current by keeping the original values intact. Here, the faulty connections produce widely wrong results instead.
