In `triangleABC` above, a=2x, b=3x+2, c=`sqrt(12)`, and `angleC=60^(@)`. Find x.

A

`0.50`

B

`0.64`

C

`0.77`

D

`1.64`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Law of Cosines:
`12=(2x)^(2)+(3x+2)^(2)-2*2x*(3x+2)cos60^(@)`
`12=4x^(2)+9x^(2)+12x+4-(12x^(2)+8x)*(1)/(2)`
`7x^(2)+8x-8=0`
Use the quadratic formula to get `x=+-0.64`
Since a side of a triangle must be positive, x can equal only 0.64.
