If kinetic energy of a body is increased by 300%, then percentage change in momentum will be

A

1

B

1.5

C

`sqrt(300%)`

D

`175%`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Let initial kinetic energy, `E_(1)` = E
Final kinetic energy, `E_(2)` = E + 300% of E=4E`
As p `alpha sqrt(E)`
`rArr (p_(2))/p_(1))` = `sqrt(E_(2)/E_(1))=sqrt(4E)/(E)` = 2 `rArr pi_(2) = 2pi_(1)`
`p_(2) = p_(1)` + 100% of `p_(1)`
i.e. Momentum will increase by 100%.
