The mass of a lift is `2000kg` . When the tensioon in the supporting cable is `28000N` , then its acceleration is.

A

`30m//s^(2)` downwards

B

`4m//s^(2)` upwards

C

`14m//s^(2)` upwards

D

`4m//s^(2)` downwards

The correct Answer is:
B

When the lift is at rest, the tension in the supporting cable
`=mg=2000xx10= 20000N`
Since T gt 20000, the lift must have been moving upwards with an acceleration (a), so that
`T= m(g+a)= mg+ma`
`therefore 28000-20000=m xx a`
`therefore 8000 = 2000 xx a " " therefore a = 4m//s^(2)`
`therefore` The lift is moving upwards with an acceleration of 4 `m//s^(2)` .
