A body dropped from a certain height strikes the ground and rises to a height of 108 cm , after striking the ground . The Coefficient of restitution is 0.6 . What is the height form which the body was dropped ?

A

2m

B

3m

C

3.5m

D

4m

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

When the ball strikes the ground its velocity will be
`v=sqrt(2gh)` =`sqrt(2xx 10 xx 5)=10m//s `
`because` e=0.6 , the upward velocity of the ball after the first rebound will be v'=ev =`0.6 xx 10 = 6` m/s
It will again hit the ground for the second rebound after time `t=(2v')/(g)` , where t = time of flight
`=(2xx6)/(10)=1.2 s`
