A body of mass `5m` initially at rest explodes into 3 fragments with mass ratio `3:1:1.` Two of fragments each of mass `'m'` are found to move with a speed `60m//s` in mutually perpendicular direction. The velocity of third fragment is

A

`60sqrt(2)m//s`

B

`20sqrt(3)m//s`

C

`10sqrt(2)m//s`

D

`20sqrst(2)m//s`

The correct Answer is:
D

When the ball falls on the floor from a height h, the velocity acquired by the ball is `v = sqrt( 2gh ) `
As e is the coefficient of restitution, the velocity acquired by the ball after the first rebound. ` =ev = e sqrt( 2gh ) `
For the upward motion of the ball,` h = h_(1)`
`v^(2) = u^(2) + 2as ` `:. 0 = e^(2) ( 2gh ) - 2gh_(1) ` `:. h_(1) = e^(2) h `
The ball will again reach the floor with the velocity `e sqrt( 2gh ) `
The upward velocity of the ball after the second rebound will be
`e [ e sqrt( 2gh )] = e^(2) sqrt( 2gh) `
and for the upward motion
`0 = ( e^(2) sqrt( 2gh)^(2))- 2gh_(2)`
`:. 2 gh = e^(4) ( 2gh) ` `:. h_(2) = e^(4) h `
