A see-saw of length 6m is pivoted at its centre. A child (A) of mass 20 kg is sitting at one end of the see-saw. Where should anolther child (B) of mass 30 kg, sit, so that the see saw is balanced?

A

1m

B

1.5m

C

2 m

D

2.5 m

The correct Answer is:
C

Since `m_(B) gt m_(A)` the child B should sit nearer to the fulcrum , to balance the see- saw .
Let x be the distance of B from the fulcrum

`F_(1) = 20 g and F_(2) = 30 g`
[ Here g = acceleration due to gravity and not gram ]
`:.` Moment of `F_(1)` about C
`=20gxx3=60g` (anticlockwise)
Moment of `F_(2)` about C = (30 g) `xx` (clockwise)
`:.` For equilibrium , 60 g = 30gx
`:. x = 2 m `

A metre stick is pivoted about its centre. A piece of wax of mass 20 g travelling horizontally and perpendicular to it at 5 m/s strikes and adheres to one end of the stick so that the stick starts to rotate in a horizontal circle. Given the moment of inertia of the stick and wax about the pivot is 0.02 kg m^(2) , the initial angular velocity of the stick is :

A 60 kg father and 20 kg child sit on opposite ends of a seesaw consisting of a board of length 4.0 m and negligible mass. The pivot can be placed anywhere between the father and the child. At what distance from the child should it be placed so that the seesaw is balanced when the father and child are stationary?

Two children weighing 15 kg, wt and 25 kgwt. sit at the ends of a see-saw, pivoted at its centre. The see-saw is 4 m long. Where should a third child, weighing 20 kg wt. sit, in order to balance the see-saw? (Neglect the weight of the see-saw)

The mass of the see-saw is twice the mass of the girl. Find the angular velocity of the plank just after the girl jumps on the plank.
