An electric pump is used to pump water ...

An electric pump is used to pump water to fill a water tank of volume `30 m^(3)` is 20 minute. The pump is on the ground floor and the tank is on the terrace of the builiding. The centre of the tank is at 40 m above the ground . How much electric power is consumed by the pump, in filing the tank , if the efficiecy of the pump is 50 ?
`( g = 10 m//s^(2)` and density of water ` 10 = ^(3) kg //m^(3)`)

A

10 kW

B

12.5 kW

C

15 kW

D

20 KW

The correct Answer is:
D

When the tank is completely filled the average hight through which wate is lifted h = 40m.
`therefore ` E = mgh = Volume `xx` Density ` xx ` g `xx` h
= `30 xx 10^(3) xx 10 xx 40 = 12 xx 1010^(6)` J
`therefore ` Power `= (W)/(t) = (12 xx 10^(6))/(20 xx 60) = 10^(4) ` watt = 10 kW
Since the efficincy of the pump is 50%
`therefore` Power consumed `10 = xx (100)/(50) = 20 K W
