Compare the variations in alternating current and direct current using graphs.

i. Direct current flows in one direction, but it can increase, can be stable, or can reduce as shown in graph (a).

ii. Alternating current is oscillatory. It increases to a maximum, then reduces to zero and increases to maximum in the reverse direction and again reduces to zero. These oscillations of the alternating current can be represented in a sinusoidal manner as shown in graph (b).
