An organic compound burns with a yellow ...

An organic compound burns with a yellow sooty flame. Is it saturated or unsaturated compound ? Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is an unsaturated compound because it burns with yellow sooty or smoky flame.
ii. As the proportion of carbon is more in an unsaturated compound,, some unburnt carbon particles are also formed during its combustion. While in the flame, these hot carbon particles emit yellow light and hence, the flame appears yellow.
